A New Chapter for the DSi Ambassador Committee

A New Chapter for the DSi Ambassador Committee

At Down Syndrome International (DSi), we believe in the power of lived experience. That’s why our Ambassador Committee is so important to us—it’s a group of self-advocates who represent people with Down syndrome globally, ensuring their voices are at the heart of our work.

Our Ambassadors have been instrumental in shaping our initiatives and advocating for change at international events, including speaking for us at the United Nations.

The Ambassador Committee shows that an organisation is strongest when its leaders are the very people it’s helping.

To keep this vital committee strong and sustainable, we’re making some exciting changes. We’re transitioning to a new, more formal structure that will allow for both consistent leadership and fresh perspectives.

What's changing?

Going forward, our Ambassadors will serve for three-year terms. This new system will be staggered, so there will always be a mix of experienced and new Ambassadors on the committee. This ensures a dynamic group while also creating new opportunities for people to join and contribute.

We’re also introducing a mentorship system. As ambassadors finish their terms, they’ll guide new members through their first year, passing on their knowledge and experience. New ambassadors will be nominated by their national DSi member organisations, with applications reviewed by our DSi staff.

A Heartfelt Farewell and a Warm Welcome

This September, we’re saying a huge thank you to seven Ambassadors who are finishing their time on the committee. Many of them were original members and have been key to shaping the committee’s incredible work.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to:

Andrew Domahidi (Australia)
Sheri Brynard (South Africa)
Eileen Dunne (Ireland)
Fahim Hasan (Bangladesh)
Chaica Al-Qasimi (United Arab Emirates)
Stuart Campbell (Scotland)
Morgan Maze (Indonesia)

Their leadership and dedication have been invaluable to DSi.

As we look to the future, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be welcoming 10 new Ambassadors to join the committee in our next meeting. This new structure will help us continue to build a committee that is dynamic, inclusive, and focused on its mission.

We can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings!
