DSi Self-Advocacy Network Group Consultation

Down Syndrome International (DSi) has started a new group called the Self-Advocacy Network Group.

It brings together people with Down syndrome and staff from 9 different member organisations around the world.

The group is a space where members can:

  • Share ideas and experiences
  • Support one another
  • Work together on advocacy projects

Global consultation and report on self advocacy

This year, we will be writing a report on how the DSi network is involved in the self-advocacy movement.

We are asking member organisations and people in their networks about self-advocacy in your country.

We would love you to take part in the consultation and encourage other people in your network to do the same.

There are 3 ways you can take part:

Surveys

Survey for individuals – Click here
Survey for organisations – Click here

Run your own focus group

You can do this in person or online

If you would like to share your project over a video call you can contact robin.gibson@ds-int.org

What are we trying to find out

  • What is the Self-Advocacy movement of people with Down syndrome like around the world.
  • How many organisations and people are involved in self-advocacy
  • How the Down Syndrome International network is involved in self-advocacy.
  • What is our member organisations understanding of self-advocacy.
  • What are the barriers to self-advocacy.
  • What resources, research, networks and support already exist.
  • How can DSi support member organisations to increase self-advocacy efforts.
  • How can member organisations support each other.

What will we do with the information?

  • Create new materials and tools to help start self-advocacy groups and help existing ones grow
  • Share these with our members so organisations can better support self-advocacy
  • Make a plan for how DSi can play its part in the worldwide self-advocacy movement
  • Track and measure the difference self-advocacy is making around the world
  • Spread the word about the great work happening globally

After the report is released

Once we have heard from you, we will have a better idea of how DSi can support your organisation to build self-advocacy in your country.

We will make ways for more organisations to join the DSi self-advocacy network group and learn from each other.
