Your support helps us:

Improve health care: Enhance healthcare services and access for people with Down syndrome.
Support families: Provide resources and support networks for families and carers.
Advance research: Fund research that leads to a better understanding and improved quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome.
Raise awareness: Increase public awareness and understanding of Down syndrome.
Support self-advocacy.
Our Self-advocacy projects are essential in empowering people with Down syndrome and their families to assert their rights and make independent decisions.
Our self-advocacy training project in Nigeria demonstrates this impact.
Participants began by learning to express their preferences in basic daily activities, such as choosing their food.
Prior to the training, they were regularly served yams, a dish they did not enjoy. The training taught them that they had the right to speak up about their preferences, allowing them to finally choose what they wanted to eat.
This initial empowerment led to more significant achievements; for the first time, they participated in national elections, exercising their right to vote.
Additionally, they began advocating for their employment rights, substantially improving their quality of life.
Without this essential training, they may never have realised the full extent of their rights and capabilities.
Their experiences highlight the vital importance of self-advocacy education in fostering independence and empowerment among individuals with Down Syndrome.
This is just one example of how a small change can have a big impact.
We can only continue this vital work with your support.
