Listen Include Respect

Listen Include Respect

About this project.

We are working with Inclusion International to develop international guidelines so organisations can make their work inclusive.

Why we are doing this project.

People with intellectual disabilities are not included in a meaningful way in the work of organisations.

We believe everyone should have a say in decisions that affect them.

This project contributes to our work on the issue of inclusive organisations.

What we are doing.

We worked with Inclusion International and over 1,500 people with intellectual disabilities and their families from almost 100 countries.

Together we wrote the Listen Include Respect guidelines.

What the guidelines are for.

The guidelines help organisations understand what they need to do to make sure people with intellectual disabilities are included in their work.

The approaches we use in this project:

Developing and sharing evidence – 350 organisations from 100 countries contributed to the work via a global survey and consultation meetings.

Empowering people to speak up – Over 1,500 people with intellectual disabilities and their families from almost 100 countries helped write the guidelines.

Supporting organisations – We work with members to understand and use the guidelines, which are free to use and available in many languages.

Building and leading partnerships – We are supporting many organisations around the world, including UN and government agencies.

Coordinating advocacy – Self advocates have advocated the use of the guidelines in many international settings.
