New ‘Self-Advocacy Group Guide’ available now

New ‘Self-Advocacy Group Guide’ available now

We have produced a new guide to help people learn how to run self-advocacy groups for people with Down syndrome.

When people with Down syndrome speak up, they can help make things better.

A self-advocacy group helps people with Down syndrome learn about their rights. They also learn how to speak up for themselves.

The group may choose to do advocacy work together.

This guide is for self-advocacy group facilitators.

The guide will teach you:

  • Why these groups are important,
  • Different ways to lead a group well,
  • How to use tools to help everyone join in,
  • Fun and creative ideas to make the group better,
  • How to make sure everyone is safe and follows rules,
  • The laws that keep everyone safe,
  • How to support people with Down syndrome to speak up.
