World Down Syndrome Day 2026
21 March is World Down Syndrome Day. This official day was created to celebrate the lives of people with Down syndrome and to make sure they have the same freedoms and opportunities as everybody else.
What we do.
Each year, our global network speaks up together about an issue that we believe needs attention all around the world.
We host the World Down Syndrome Day Conference at the United Nations in New York where self-advocates and other experts speak up about what needs to change.
We use the official World Down Syndrome Day website to support the global Down syndrome community to take collective action and ensure that every voice is heard.
The 2026 theme
For World Down Syndrome Day in 2026, we will be talking about the problem of loneliness.
Loneliness is a serious problem.
Loneliness is not just a sad feeling. It is bad for our health and happiness.
We will be sharing how real inclusion can be the answer.

World Down Syndrome Day Conference, New York
World Down Syndrome Day has been an official part of the United Nations calendar since 2012.
Each year, we host the World Down Syndrome Day Conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
2026 will see the 15th Conference take place with self-advocates and other experts sharing their knowledge and experience of loneliness and what they believe needs to change.

World Down Syndrome Day at United Nations, Geneva
Each year, we work with Down syndrome organisations in Switzerland to coordinate activities at the United Nations in Geneva to mark World Down Syndrome Day.
This is another opportunity for self-advocates to share their expertise on a global stage.
